Waterfowl Hunts with MC Outfitters

Our duck & goose hunting area is one of the first agricultural areas that migrating birds encounter on their journey from their Northern nesting grounds to southern wintering areas. Combine this with thousands of local birds, and your opportunities are endless. This area is home to and the flyway for large numbers of Mallards, Pintails with bonuses of wigon’s, blue and green winged teal and even some divers. Greater Canada geese, lesser with bonuses of cacklers, Speckle belly, and increasing numbers of snow geese each year.

Daily limits include 8 geese, 8 ducks and 50 snow geese.

Waterfowl hunts are offered from September through the end of October where the birds are actively nesting & migrating. To set you up for a successful hunt, we offer top of the line hunting equipment with a variety of fully flocked full body decoys, silhouette’s, and motion decoys. Top of the line ground blinds, willow blinds and panel blinds. These are chosen based on the guide’s discretion and also taking into consideration the group’s preference or need. We offer comfortable seating and plenty of room in each blind. This allows us to ensure a fun, comfortable and safe hunt for everyone joining.

Our Waterfowl Hunts

Arrive at MC Outfitters anytime after 2pm on Sunday to settle in, get to know the crew, enjoy a home cooked meal and get ready for an early morning shoot. Once your group has finished their morning hunt, you will return to the lodge and enjoy a home cooked lunch and snacks to keep you energized throughout your stay. Afternoon’s can be spent exploring the local area, or enjoying your time at the lodge. You will likely limit out on your morning hunts. After a hearty dinner, we will spend the evenings telling stories around the campfire under the Alberta stars. If you are lucky enough you might even get to see the Northern lights. Wednesday finishes off with a morning shoot, hearty breakfast before leaving in the afternoon.

Whichever days you choose to hunt, each hunter has a possession limit of a 3-day bag limit. This includes 24 geese, 24 ducks and 50 snow geese.

Quill Lake Canada Goose

Geese that have white patches on their bellies, unusual feet markings, and white markings under the wings are called “Quill Lake Geese” or “Quill Geese.” The Quill Lakes are very exciting to see when one of these is locked up right in front of you! This anomaly can be found in any sub-species of Canada goose, it is just extremely rare in most areas. Many rumors surround Quill Lake Geese. These birds were first identified in the Quill Lakes area in central Saskatchewan, thus the name, but there are a few different stories about just why their colouring is different. When you get a good look at its belly, they are unmistakeable and definitely trophy worthy.

The Quill Lake goose can come in with a flock of typical geese - lessers, greaters or cacklers. As rare as these birds are, we do see a few every year.
